ITERCON lays the cornerstone for a 60,800 m2 logistics complex for Scannell Properties

  • This is one of the largest facilities developed by Scannell Properties in Catalonia, and the second built by ITERCON for the Dutch brand Action as the end client.
  • The project, with an eco-friendly focus, aims to achieve the highest level of BREEAM sustainable certification: Outstanding.

Valencia / Banyeres del Penedès (Spain) –ITERCON, a global leader in design and construction, has laid the first stone of Logistic Park Banyeres, a complex with a built area of 60,800 square meters, for U.S.-based developer Scannell Properties., with Dutch retailer Action as the end client. Located in the Spanish town of Banyeres del Penedès (Tarragona), this new center is a built-to-suit logistics project-designed specifically to meet the client’s needs- and is currently the largest of its kind underway in Catalonia.

The groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of construction on a 104,000-square-meter plot. The event was attended by representatives from ITERCON, Scannell Properties, Action, and various Spanish public authorities, who gathered to highlight the importance of this asset. During the ceremony, participants placed a commemorative capsule containing the day’s newspapers, legal tender coins, and the project’s layout document, which was then buried.

The facility will feature six ground-level access doors, a large maneuvering yard, and 49 loading docks. Inside, there will be a 2,545 m² office area, separate access points for light and heavy vehicles, and a strong emphasis on sustainability and occupant well-being.

BREEAM Outstanding: A Commitment to Sustainability

The project is aiming for the prestigious BREEAM Outstanding certification, the highest level in sustainable building, underscoring ITERCON’s commitment to environmentally responsible construction with a focus on minimizing impact. The company’s portfolio includes several logistics projects recognized with top-tier BREEAM and LEED certifications.

To meet the requirements for this certification, the building will incorporate features such as a Building Management System (BMS), 600kW solar panels, rainwater harvesting, asphalt made from recycled tires, a green roof on the office area, and electric vehicle chargers for both cars and trucks.

The logistics facility is expected to be completed and operational by the end of 2026.
